The weekly Umbertide Earth Market, launched on July 31, 2010, was created through the collaboration of the Municipality of Umbertide and Slow Food Umbria. Recognizing the close links between quality local agriculture, environmental protection and discerning consumption, already in the 1980s the Municipality of Umbertide organized the "Festival of Organic Agriculture" which has been repeated for more than twenty years.
Every Saturday the central town square gathers local producers and artisans supporting the spirit and principles of the Earth Markets initiative. The project has also received backing with support for the Alliance, from the regional associations AIAB, CIA and Legambiente. The market hosts producers of wine, oil, cheese vegetables and honey, together with artisans selling their ceramic and textile products. The Slow Food Presidia and Terra Madre communities of Umbria will also make an occasional appearance.
The Earth Market is held in Piazza Matteotti (opposite the Palazzo del Comune) and the surrounding area has ample parking. Opening hours are from 8 am to 1 pm every Saturday. For further information Giovanna Tacconi, +39 392.9292495, tacconigiovanna@yahoo.it
